2019 Yom HaShoah Commemoration & Community Gathering

Over 400 individuals attended the 2019 Yom HaShoah Commemoration & Community Gathering on May 5, 2019 at Congregation Or Tzion in Scottsdale.

The 2019 Yom HaShoah Commemoration was meaningful and moving for those who attended.  Survivor George Kalman shared his reflections with the community.

Music was provided by several local cantors coordinated by Cantor Dannah Rubenstein along with the Greater Phoenix Jewish Community.

Megan Mendoza, who was awarded The Bronia and Sam Bronkesh Jewish Spirit Prize, presented her award-winning essay.

The 2019 Shofar Zakhor Award was given to Journalists of the Arizona Republic. Phil Boas, Editorial Page Director, accepted on behalf of the newspaper. A special award was given to The Violins of Hope project of the Jewish Federation of Greater Phoenix.  Accepting on behalf of the program were Julie Landau (co-chair) and Alison Johnston (program manager).

Six survivors lit candles in the Candle Lighting Ceremony in memory of the six million Jews murdered in the Shoah.

Co-chairs of Yom Hashoah were Judy Searle and Erin Searle-Proud.
