Three Minutes in Poland

Discovering a Lost World in a 1938 Family Film

by Glenn Kurtz

In 2008, Glenn Kurtz discovered a film shot by his grandfather in 1938 during a visit to Poland, the country he had emigrated from. David Kurtz was on a tour of pre-war Europe and recorded everyday life for Jews before Poland was invaded and the Jewish presence disappeared. Of a population of 3000 Jews in the town of Nasielsk, only 100 survived. Glenn Kurtz’s book reveals how these 3000 lived and prospered. Three Minutes in Poland was selected as one of the best books of 2014 by the Boston Globe, The New Yorker, and NPR. Additional details are forthcoming.
